Gold leaf is designated as a traditional craft product of Japan. Notably, Entsuke gold leaf has been passed down from ancient times, with each piece carefully selected and hand-crafted by artisans. In 2014, it was designated a Selected Conservation Technique by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. There are two types of gold leaf: Entsuke and Tachikiri, which was developed as a way to respond to large orders. The color of the gold leaf differs depending on the composition of the alloy.
